[Compassionate Conservatism]

More Quotes

The WaPo adds to the fine list of quotes coming from the party of compassion. A choice example:
Rep. Richard H. Baker (R-Baton Rouge): "We finally cleaned up public housing in New Orleans. We couldn't do it, but God did."

When the quote was published, he clarified things:
"What I remember expressing, in a private conversation with a housing advocate and member of my staff, was that 'We have been trying for decades to clean up New Orleans public housing to provide decent housing for residents, and now it looks like God is finally making us do it. Obviously I have never expressed anything but the deepest concern about the suffering that this terrible catastrophe has caused for so many in our state."
Obviously. Kevin Drum has a couple other nice ones, too:
"Now tell me the truth boys, is this kind of fun?"
-- Tom DeLay, to evacuees living in tents.

"There may be a need to look at tougher penalties on those who decide to ride it out and understand that there are consequences to not leaving."
--Rick Santorum, about residents of New Orleans.
Let's hope the DNC is preparing ads with these quote for '06.
