BCS--One Too Many Letters

The Oregon Ducks are, depending on the poll one consults, the fifth or sixth best team in the country. Thus, they will play in ... the Holiday Bowl, scheduled for a Thursday night, when approximately fifty-six people will tune in to see it. Kickoff is scheduled for 5pm Pacific time, so not only do the Ducks get screwed by this idiotic BCS system, but so will fans, who will be able to tune in and catch the last three quarters after work.

Playoffs are no great solution, but designing a system in which slots are alloted to mediocre teams who should be playing in Plano, Texas on December 21, not in the Orange Bowl, like 8-4 FSU, is intolerable. We know who the evildoers are: the Bowl Championship Series.

I know none of you care, but there it is. (At BlueOregon, good liberals demonstrate they can be good football fans, too.)

[Brief addendum, from Sports Illustrated's Austin Murphy: "I don't blame Florida State. If someone was going to throw money at me, I'd try to catch it, too. But the truth is, the Seminoles, who finished 22nd in the BCS rankings, have no business in a showcase bowl. Not while 10-1, fifth-ranked Oregon is headed for Sea World and the Holiday Bowl."]

Yes, and that's further evidence--it's not a BCS Bowl!

Ahhh... Jeff's musings on sports and leisure. I'd watch football with you sometime, Alworth. Just give me a call, buddy. I'll bring the brews and you can boil the rice.
