A few key demographics about Islam's prominence across the globe.

Total number of Muslims worldwide: 1.4 billion
Percent of Muslims who are Arab: 15
Number of independent Muslim countries: 50
US Muslim population: 9 million (3% of total)
Annual growth rate: 6%
The fourth-largest Muslim population is in India, where it is a minority religion.

Other religious populations:

Christian: 2 billion (shrinking)
Hindu: 830 million (shrinking)
None: 775 million (shrinking)
Buddhist: 400 million (stable)
Sikh: 24 million (growing)
Judaism: 14 million (shrinking)
Mormon: 10 million (growing)

And can we take your word for it that Buddhism is stable?

Z--there was a figure for athiest, which I blew off; the remainder are regional, traditional faiths.

AM--no, but that site I found the numbers on (which, incidentally, differ fairly decently depending on which source you look at) called Buddhists stable. Makes sense; countries where practice is declining (Japan, Sri Lanka) is offset by those where it's increasing (Europe, N. America).
